When you have kids, you realize there is not really anything that you need that you can’t buy. That being said, there are a lot of things that you don’t need that you can also buy… and there are things you do need but should think about before you buy.
My son has a super cute, functional pint-sized table from Ikea. He received this as a gift, along with two matching chairs. Part of the tabletop lifts off to reveal two storage bins to hold toys, art supplies, etcetera. This table is in his room and he loves it. He also loves being in the family room with us in the evening, and he needed a table of some sort to put his toys on, build “big towers” on, and pound on with his hammer. While my coffee table is pretty substantial and plastic hammers don’t cause a whole lot of damage, I’d rather he “fixes” his own table. And… I love my son and all the things he’s brought into my life, but having my family room look like a daycare center is something I try to avoid (as much as possible).
I needed to find a nice looking, preferably inexpensive table. One of the first places I go when I wish for inexpensive is IKEA! They didn’t disappoint. I found the Lack Side Table for like eight bucks! It took less than 5 minutes to put together. It’s VERY durable (it still looks almost brand new after a year of playing on it). My toddler chairs fit like they were made for it. It’s lightweight, so moving it to play is no problem. It’s the PERFECT toddler table! You can find chairs at Ikea to go with it, but my little guy mostly stands at it. It would also be perfect if you wanted a fun little snack table next to your adult sized table!
Thanks Ikea, you always have my back! Ha!
