Hello, Friends! It’s been a bit since you’ve heard from me. So… Guess what… Starting a blog is hard! I thought setting up a blog was hard, but actually finding my blog groove has proven to be harder! This isn’t normally something I’d put out there, but I’m trying to be open about this whole process, since that’s the point of my whole blog (helping you, by my example, to find your own Self Made Story). ANYWAY… I really started overthinking things as I was trying to write all this spectacular content. It got to the point where my creative ideas weren’t just coming to me like they had for so long. It was rough. Then I mentioned my problem to a friend and she said to just be myself and not worry about trying to be what people want to see. She said she liked it best when I was “real”. And thinking back, that is what I wanted my writing to be all along! Real! So… Guess what… I’M BACK! I’ve learned from my bump in the road and on my way! Whoot Whoot!
On to the scarf organizing. Are you scarf obsessed like me? Scarves are one of my favorite accessory. They can dress up a plain t-shirt, they can be cheap or expensive, and they can also be very beneficial in these Midwest winters that I’m not so fond of (why is this winter dragging on FOREVER?!?!?). My love for scarves has turned into a whole dresser drawer full of scarves. Yes, I still have a drawer full after I sent many to donation. I had them all folded neatly in my drawer, which was great, until I wanted one from the bottom… and then another, and then I had scarf fringe hanging out the top of the drawer and that just isn’t a good look
I’ve been on kind of an organizing streak lately. Before my son was born, I’d create these big elaborate organizing projects for myself, which were sometimes unreasonable, sometimes frustrating (because my goals were WAY too lofty) and sometimes successful. After my now toddler came along, my organizing goals are much less lofty, and much more successful. I decided that I was going to organize one thing per weekend. I don’t mean one dresser per weekend, I mean one dresser drawer (keep the goals reasonable). And guess which drawer I started with… SCARVES! The escaping fringe was really starting to get on my nerves. I first took everything out and got rid of what I didn’t need (or didn’t even know I had… like I had ever even purchased). Then I sorted my scarves by category. How do you categorize scarves? Up to you… I have fancy (like the ones I paid probably too much for), dressy, casual, and super functional (meaning warm or that kinda pricy one with all the snaps that you can twist into a shirt, shrug, head wrap or tent…). Once I categorized, I had the idea to roll my scarves. This is weird for me. I’m not one to roll my clothes for traveling… or for anything. But for me, rolling scarves made sense. It worked! It worked really well! I can see so many more scarves at once, and there are only two layers, so the unseen scarves aren’t far away. If you have a scarf drawer (or want one), rolling is definitely the way to organize it!
